The St. Mary's Knights remain undefeated after a hard fought 13-1 win over the Sir James Dunn Eagles in high school football action on Thursday night at Rocky DiPietro Field. The Knights improved to 3-0 and hold sole possession of first place in the senior division. The Eagles fall to 1-2. In a defensive battle, Kayvon Fatemazadeh scored the game's only two touchdowns for St. Mary's in the first half on a 13 yard run and a 76 yard reception. Andrew Posteraro successfully kicked one of two converts. Both teams were held scoreless in the second half. The Eagles' Dan Kennedy scored their lone point on a punt through the end zone for a single. Fatemazadeh led all rushers with 81 yards on 16 carries. Dan Esson added 69 yards on 10 carries for the Knights while quarterback Anthony Amadio completed four of 12 passes for 69 yards and a touchdown. Kevin Nanne led the St. Mary's defense with 8.5 tackles while Aaron Amadio added six. Kofi Osei led the Eagles rushing attack with 57 yards on 15 carries while Nigel Milne gained 35 yards on 12 carries. Kennedy led the defense with 5.5 tackles while Jake Kallio, Art Dawe and Mike Beharriell added 4.5 each. In junior division play, Andrew Baziuk scored three touchdowns to lead St. Mary's past Sir James Dunn 28-1. Pat Armstrong added a touchdown while Jason Dias kicked two converts and Mark Devuono added a two point conversion for the Knights. Week three action continues Friday with White Pines taking on Bawating. The juniors meet at 4:15 p.m. at Bawating while the seniors battle at 7:30 p.m. at Rocky DiPietro Field. *** GIRLS BASKETBALL: The St. Basil Saints, the defending city and NOSSA AA champions, improved to 2-0 and gained sole possession of first place in the senior division with a 51-42 win over the Korah Colts. Rachel Cobean led the winners with 12 points while Dana Ferguson and Heidi Jaaskelainen scored 10 each. Shannon Penfold led the Colts with 12 points while Katrina Huopalanien added 10. In junior, Korah edged St. Basil 25-22 with Christina Medaglia leading the winners with 10 points. Amanda Vernelli scored eight points for the Saints. The Bawating Braves defeated Sir James Dunn 44-39 in senior action. Kristin Timusk led Bawating with 12 points while Stephanie Thayer scored 10. Christina Whitmell led the Eagles with 11 points while Ashling McWilliam added nine. In the junior contest, Amanda Whitmell's 11 points and LaToya Busque's eight led Bawating past SJD 37-32. Sarah Miller replied with 13 points for the Eagles. St. Mary's used 22 points from Jessica Sicoly and 10 from Jennifer Sweezy to beat the White Pines Wolverines 62-42 in senior action. Holly Maskel led White Pines with 13 points while Kelly Meincke added 11. Kathleen Thorburn and Sara Turner scored 11 points each to help St. Mary's past White Pines 59-14 in junior. Miriam Pinder scored 10 points for the Wolverines. .
