Despite Kevin Druce's heroics in goal, the Soo Greyhounds dropped a 4-2 decision to the Kitchener Rangers on Friday night. In the team's first road contest of the Ontario Hockey League regular season, Druce stopped 51 of 54 shots he faced in the Greyhounds net and was named the game's first star for his efforts in front of 5,551 fans. Greyhounds captain Jeff Carter made his first appearance in the line up this season and scored a power play goal in the third period. Overager Scott Dobben, who received a gross misconduct penalty late in the game, scored his first goal of the year for the Hounds in the second period. Kitchener, the defending Memorial Cup champions, led by scores of 1-0 after one period and 3-1 after the second. Mike Richards and David Clarkson scored power play goals for the Rangers while Patrick Davis added a goal and Nathan O'Nabigon, who added two assists, scored into an empty net. The Greyhounds remain in search of their first win of the season after falling to 0-2-1 on Friday. The Hounds visit the Owen Sound Attack on Saturday night beginning at 7:30 p.m. In other OHL games on Friday night, the Sarnia Sting beat Owen Sound 5-2, London beat Ottawa 6-2, Barrie blanked Sudbury 3-0, Peterborough edged Brampton 3-2 and Plymouth beat Kingston 5-2. In a trade on Friday, the Kitchener Rangers shipped sophomore forward Chad McCaffrey to the Toronto St. Michael's Majors for a conditional seventh round pick in the 2005 OHL draft.
