Searchmont Ski Runner Maelee Lesnick has been selected to represent Team Ontario at the U14 Can Am event in Sugarloaf, Maine, March 27 to 31, the local youth ski association says.

After a strong showing at the U14 Ontario Cup finals, including a tie for first place on her first Giant Slalom run, Lesnick secured her spot as one of 15 female athletes on the team of 30.

In a news release, the Ski Runners said that despite a setback on her second GS run, Lesnick was able to reset and finish 14th in the Slalom.

“It was a challenging ski season, but in this last race I showed myself how strong I really am," Lesnick said. "I realized that if I gave up, then someone else would be ready to take my place. I am proud that I get to help represent Ontario."

The association previously announced that U16 Ski Runners Ella Filice and Katelyn Real have also been selected to represent Team Ontario at the ACA U16 Eastern Regional Championships.

SSR board chair Dave Fraser noted the hard work and dedication that these athletes have shown throughout their years in the program.

“We are all so very proud of these young ladies and we wish them continued success at their upcoming races," Fraser said. "We will be cheering loudly from Searchmont!”

Next up, Searchmont Resort will host The Honda Cup 2024 for U8, U10, and U12 racers from across the province Easter weekend, March 30-31.
