UPDATE: Korah, Mount, St. basil's sweep openers

The Korah Colts, Mount St. Joseph College Royals and St. Basil Saints claimed wins in both the junior and senior divisions during opening day action in the high school girls basketball league on Tuesday.

The Korah Colts, Mount St. Joseph College Royals and St. Basil Saints claimed wins in both the junior and senior divisions during opening day action in the high school girls basketball league on Tuesday. The senior Colts, fresh off a tournament championship at Algoma University College on the weekend, used 12 points from Alicia Murtonen and 10 from Liza Turpin in a 48-37 win over the Sir James Dunn Eagles. Ashling McWilliam replied with 14 points for the Eagles. In the junior contest, Christina Medaglia scored 12 points and Katie Antler 10 in Korah's 34-22 win. Alexis Ambeault scored nine points and Sarah Miller five for SJD. At White Pines, Jessica Stone scored a game high 19 points to lead Mount St. Joseph past the White Pines Wolverines 54-39. Heather Lewis added 18 points for the winners while Kelly Meinke with 14 pints and Crystal Eisler with eight led White Pines. In junior, the Mount beat the Wolverines 43-25. Kirsty Mancuso scored 11 points for the Mount while Ashley Clingen led the Wolverines with 11 points. At St. Basil, the defending city and NOSSA AA champion Saints rolled past St. Mary's 48-27. Kaitlin Deboer led the winners with 15 points, Lara Stilin added seven points while Rachel Cobean and Heidi Jaaselainen scored six each. Jessica Sicoly, Jen Sweezy and Elise Currier replied with six points each for St. Mary's. In the junior contest, the St. Basil Saints defeated St. Mary's 45-34. Abby DiDonato led St. Basil with 16 points while Adrianna Bruni and Courtney Dubas scored 10 each. Julia Burgess scored eight points and Kathleen Thorburn seven for St. Mary's. The Bawating Braves, who had an opening day bye, split a pair of exhibition games with Brimley, Michigan. Sarah Crispell scored 16 points and Rachel Genier 12 to lead the junior Braves to a 38-31 win. Bawating dropped the senior contest 48-31 with Kristen Timusk scoring 10 points and Stephanie Thayer eight for the Braves.
