The long anticipated battle between the Soo Thunderbirds and Blind River Beavers failed to disappoint.

A day after a well played victory, the Soo North Stars discovered that a lot of work still needs to be done.

The Soo North Stars began defense of their Great North Midget League championship in fine form on Saturday night.

Another exciting season of local high school football kicked off on Friday night with the annual John Croshuk Kickoff Classic. Backed by a pair of shutouts, the East defeated the West 59-18 in front of a huge gathering at Rocky DiPietro Field.

It may have only been an exhibition game but the Soo Greyhounds were more than happy to leave with a win.

Late model driver Dan Byrnes saved his best for last. The young and steadily improving Byrnes put forth his best effort of the season and was rewarded with the final checkered flag for the 2004 season at Laird International Raceway on Thursday night.

Another season of local stock racing is about to come to a close this weekend.

Zoltan "Toots" Kovacs made few promises when he took over as head coach of the Soo Thunderbirds, but the one he did make was delivered on opening night.

Another season of competitive women's rep hockey is about to begin. The Sault Ste. Marie Senior AA Wildcats have announced their tryout schedule for the upcoming season. Tryouts will begin on Saturday, Sept. 11 from 8-9 p.m.

The Sault Recreation Hockey Association is inviting all interested ringette participants out for a trial run on Monday.
