Sault Area High’s Team The Instigators get a first look at their robot accessories kit during national FIRST Robotics world kick-off day at lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
Teams from all over Michigan converged at LSSU on January 3 to receive component kits from which they will develop and program robots for the annual FIRST Robotics competition, which is coming into its third decade and includes more than 3,000 teams from all over the world.
The goal is to design and build a robot based on an assigned theme, this year’s being recycling.
Teams now have six weeks to build robots, with an eye towards regional competitions that run March – April, culminating with an international championship on April 24 in St Louis, Missouri.
Sault schools have fielded a team since 2005.

Contact Ms. Dettloff at 906/635-3839 or dettloff@eup.k12.mi.us to volunteer time and resources for this year’s effort. (LSSU/John Shibley)
