ARLINGTON, Va. — Dmitry Orlov developed into one of the Washington Capitals' best defencemen last season, and he's being rewarded with a long-term, big-money contract. The Capitals re-signed Orlov on Friday to a $30.

CALGARY — Veteran forward Kris Versteeg and the Calgary Flames agreed to a one-year contract on Thursday worth US$1.75 million. Versteeg spent last season with the Flames after signing with the team as a free agency in October of 2016.

LAVAL, Que. — When the Montreal Canadiens announced Thursday that Sylvain Lefebvre was staying on as coach of their American Hockey League team, the response on social media was overwhelmingly negative.

NEWARK, N.J. — The New Jersey Devils have re-signed backup goaltender Keith Kinkaid to a two-year contract. General manager Ray Shero announced the deal late Thursday, noting that Kinkaid will get $1.2 million this season and $1.3 million in 2018-19.

ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Blues have re-signed forward Magnus Paajarvi to a one-year, one-way contract worth $800,000. Blues general manager Doug Armstrong announced the deal Thursday.
