Free agent star power is in short supply yet again this July 1, but that doesn't mean helpful contributors and potential bargains aren't out to be found. Here are eight names to keep an eye when Canada Day rolls around: 1.

MONTREAL — The Montreal Canadiens have signed left-wing Jacob De La Rose to a one-year, one-way contract. The 22-year-old left wing spent the majority of last season with the American Hockey League's St.

CALGARY — Coveted college free agent Spencer Foo has committed to signing with the Calgary Flames. A standard players' contract with the 23-year-old forward from Edmonton will become official Saturday, the Flames said Tuesday in a release.

CHICAGO — The Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to a one-year contract with defenceman Ville Pokka.

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota Wild have re-signed centre Pat Cannone (kuh-NOH-nee) to a one-year, two-way contract. Cannone made his NHL debut last season for the Wild and appeared in three games.

DETROIT — The Detroit Red Wings have signed centre Ben Street to a one-year contract extension. The 30-year-old Street played six games for the Red Wings in 2016-17 after signing with Detroit as an unrestricted free agent last off-season .

EDMONTON — The Edmonton Oilers have signed defenceman Eric Gryba to a two-year contract extension. Gryba, 29, appeared in 40 games with the Oilers last season, posting six points (two goals, four assists) and 65 penalty minutes.

DALLAS — The Dallas Stars have announced their buyout of the final year of goalie Antti Niemi's contract, a plan that will spread the $3 million payment over two seasons for an annual salary cap hit of $1.5 million. Niemi was due to make $4.

Marc Methot could go from playing with Erik Karlsson to pairing up with another young Swedish defenceman after a trade to the Dallas Stars.
