Canada beats United States to capture FIVB World League bronze medal

CURITIBA, Brazil — Canada won the FIVB World League bronze on Saturday with a four-set victory over the United States.

The Canadians dropped the first set before taking three straight (18-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-21).

Captain John Gordon Perrin led the way with 13 points for Canada while Sharone Vernon-Evans and Graham Vigrass chipped in with 12 points apiece.

"I'm just really proud right now of everyone in the program, and happy for everyone in the past that's helped the program," said Perrin.

"It's been the last four or five years, every year we achieve something new, we go to somewhere we haven't been. I'm excited to see where we can go from here; I hope we can continue to grow."

Head coach Stephane Antiga added: "We didn't start well, we made a lot a mistakes, we really weren't ready. I really appreciated the direction of my players and then everyone participated in this victory."

Canada finished 13th at last year's tournament.
