The O.P.P. reports a quiet New Years Eve. There were a couple of domestic disputes but no serious accidents.

The O.P.P. in Northern Ontario were kept busy with traffic accidents. There were 16 since 8pm yesterday. That is in an area from Burke's Falls to Kapuskasing to Wawa to Sault Ste. Marie.

O.P.P in the Sault report a very quiet 24 hours. In spite of the heavy snowfall overnight, there have been no traffic accidents in the area.

Sault Ste. Marie O.P.P. investigated two minor accidents yesterday. At 4:25 p.m., an accident in Searchmont caused very little damage and there were no injuries. The second accident occurred on Hwy #638 east of Echo Bay when a vehicle struck a deer.

As the result of a vehicle stop on Hwy #17, Aweres Township, a small quantity of Cannabis Resin was seized. At 9:00 p.m., Sault OPP stopped a vehicle for various Highway Traffic Act violations.

Highway 17 north has been reopened from Batchewana to Wawa. It had been closed as a result of snow squalls coming off Lake Superior. The OPP investigated two minor traffic accidents over the past 24 hours. Poor road conditions were to blame.

As is usually the case, police had a fairly quiet Christmas day yesterday. Sault O.P.P. recovered a mountain bike on Hwy #17, Garden River First Nations at 11:00 p.m. yesterday. If you lost it, contact the Sault Ste. Marie detachment. At 1:18 a.m.

The Sault Ste. Marie detachment of the O.P.P. had a very quiet Christmas Eve and has nothing to report. Merry Christmas from the men and women of the Ontario Provincial Police Service.

THE "GRINCH" VISITS A BATCHAWANA FIRST NATION FAMILY Batchawana First Nation, Ont., The Batchawana First Nation Police are investigating the theft of several Christmas presents from an apartment on the Batchawana First Nation Territory.

Although the OPP has been busy in other parts of the north, the Sault detachment had a very quiet night last night and has nothing to report.
