One of the choices should have been " Depends how long this will go on for " Financial institutions recommend people should always have a minimum of 3 months wages banked . If this nonsense continues to the end of summer some people / families may be financially ruined !
Rest easy. I'm sure Justin will make sure that doesn't happen. From what I can gather, the gov't will be rolling out the dough. As for the deficit and mounting debt, it will just have to "grow up".
Yeah. Let future generations worry about that. I often wonder about the debt. Seems that at any given time, governments have no trouble coming up with money when it suits their purpose, even when there is no emergency such as now. I suspect that with such a significant portion of government revenue going to finance the debt, the people collecting are only too happy to watch it grow. Think of all the money they're making, and the base source of all that money keeps growing and growing in the form of annual deficits. Seems the taxpayers are the only ones truly concerned and I can't blame us. And as for blame, let's hope that there won't have to be too much of that coming from generations down the road.
When I say "even when there is no emergency SUCH AS now", I suppose I should have said "SUCH AS the emergency we are experiencing at the moment". Clearly, for the time being, there certainly would appear to be an emergency.
soowat. I can't divine your motives, but for the record let me tell you that there is absolutely nothing to be seen on TV that I would hesitate to be spared of for the sake of anything or anyone's benefit. I like to read a lot. I can also tell you that when it comes to the crisis of debt financing facing nations around the developed world, being an ostrich with its head buried in the sand is no solution.
And for those who are finding these times to be psychologically if not physically taxing, take care because this too shall end. Believe that better days are ahead because they are!
Yeah SMART... The future generation will be cursing us for spending money and not just letting thousands of people die and businesses go bankrupt........ Ok boomer...
It is times like this that make people do what they have to do to survive. Self isolation is a request not an order. So, some people have no choice but to work. Their employer doesn't recognize the importance of the request. Some companies will see some impact from this.
I agree with you smart. I'm sure we will have an enormous deficit from this whole deal. I think the government is doing all they can to battle this crisis to the best of their ability. Rest easy is correct. Let's all take the necessary precautions but please do not live in fear as that alone will take its toll on you. Stay safe everyone!
I’m hoping the government has something for small businesses. I haven’t seen much posted yet but this is very hard on the small businesses. I would hate to see years of work for these businesses squashed flat by this.
A responsible government lives within its means & has assets not a debts so that when a catastraphy such as this happens it can react properly When the problem passes & it will they clean up the mess & get back to stability as soon as possible However many individuals being people will always require others to look after their needs
I Often wonder how this deficit thing really works. Who do we owe all this money to? Is there a "guy" somewhere in the world holding the purse strings? Is the deficit really artificial? What happens if we do not pay down the debt....do they come and seize our homes?
Countries default for a number of reasons and most countries have defaulted at least once. To answer you, most debt is held by foreign powers. After defaulting lenders are usually hesitant to loan for a time or loan at poorer rates. Temporarily a country will deal with economic consequences and uncertainty, but usually that doesn't last forever and life goes on. For example in 2008 Iceland chose not to bail out and banks and many people lost their life savings. But the economy did recover.
My point is that defaulting has serious consequences. It's not desirable but it's not the end of the world and life would go on.
Now imagine if we had a stronger economy and no debt the amount of things that could get done. Anyone who thinks they will actually get a bail out is ludicrous. All that ei they are dishing out will save them money from the federal and provincial pay checks they already had for this year. You know who wins in this....banks. Banks always win. The stock market crashes. Things are 10 cents on the dollar. Banks roll in a buy everything in the name of help. This is how ww2 and Hitler Started. Germany was broke and bankrupt. You had two classes. Super rich and poor. Hitler told everyone socialism was the answer which just made it worse. He blamed the rich businesspeople (Jewish people). It made no sense. Jews are like any other who people have rich and poor. But most people just want someone to blame. I only hope this doesn’t start a depression. The horrors that could come afterwards is terrifying. Practically everyone living in Canada has never experienced a depression or a global War.
Or we could use actual social policy and programming to help people. The Nazis did not do that despite the name of their party. It was a choice for them to use a racial scapegoat, it's not one our government today has to make.
ultra-nationalist, socially conservative, anti-egalitarian and fascist ideology, Nazism naturally falls on the extreme far-right end of the political spectrum. Members of the party who defended socialism on its own terms were ejected from the party. The party took a leftist label for tactical reasons. Labour unions were replaced by the party, strikes were outlawed, social programs only accessible to the racially worthy. Above all they were German white nationalists.

The hope, and frankly realistic expectation, is that our government act differently today.

The last thing anyone should be worrying about is the deficit. Good god. We could see thousands of people die!

S.M.A.R.T.: You seem like the kind of person that if your house were burning would complain that you were missing you favourite TV show

I hope so too, I’ve been keeping an eye out.

What Hitler called socialism was actually fascism. Democratic socialism is a sound economic policy.

Where's the option "still working"
