The Soo North Stars have taken a 2-0 lead in their best-of-five Great North Midget Hockey League playoff series with the Kapuskasing Flyers. A 7-3 win on Sunday gave the North Stars a home sweep to begin the series.

Brigitte Acton of Sault Ste. Marie won the gold medal in women's downhill at the Pontiac GMC Canadian Junior Alpine Ski Championships in Quebec City on Sunday. In the same event, Lauren Lattimer, also of the Sault, won the silver medal.
