this is the worst ontario government since mike harris, and is likely worse.

Far worse than the Kathleen Wynne government.

Harris cleaned up the disaster left by Bob Rae. Ford is trying to fix15 years of corrupt Liberal policies and poor fiscal management under Wynne and Dilton McDoily.. Tough medicine, yes, but necessary.

An other attempt to distract from the real reasons for the impasse. Money that would have solved the problem in the first place if they had removed their imposed changes to education.

It is the money that they are not paying the striking teachers. It is not new money

I did read somewhere that apparently it is cheaper to pay the parents on strike days than it costs to pay the wages for that day.

And for the record KFM, I agree with you.

No wonder we're broke beyond repair. Government waste and attempting to buy votes through blatant mollification. If I were an eligible parent I would vehemently reject the offer on principle.

I agree and will not be applying for this bribe

Chantelylace... implies you have kids. Poor darlings!

"Thanks", Ford.

The party of Fiscal Responsibility, ladies and gentlemen. Rather than solve the problem, lets pay off the parents.

I would like to see Doug Ford and his cronies spend 1 week in a packed classroom dealing with special needs as well as regular students.. I would like to see them prepare for the next day, do report cards and much more ..
Does Doug Ford have the ability to make decisions with no formal education .. he should adhere to "walk in my shoes" then he and his cronies will see the light...

You are 100% correct.

Kids with special needs are now the norm rather than the exception. Caused by brainwashing by society and teachers.

FORD CAN GIVE THEM THE RAISE THEY WANT,,,,,HE GIVES ALL HIS OLD CRONNIES OUR MONEY, WHY NOT GIVE THE TEACHERS A RAISE....

They aren’t looking for a raise. The teachers want to secure proper class sizes and secure funding for special education. The teachers are fighting for the kids, not themselves.

MrsR - What do you think that 2% thing is all about then?

Some special needs kids do better by not being integrated into a *regular classroom.
Some *regular students can't do well with special needs kids in the classroom.

Betty2 I totally agree with you. As a former educational assistant, I've seen first hand what a student with special needs can do to a classroom. I'm not saying that all special needs students be put in a separate classroom, it totally depends on the needs of the child. But having a violent student in a regular classroom can be devastating. My grandson has autism, but very smart. He also has adhd. He was put in a regular classroom but couldn't handle being with the large number of students and the noise that came with it. His grades were failing and he became disrupted in the classroom. He was moved to the special needs room and is excelling in this environment. Teachers are the most important person in a students life from 8-4 every day. And the EA's that are in these classrooms should be recognized.
Smaller classrooms and sufficient funding for special education should be a top priority. After all, these students of today are our future tomorrow.

Maybe cuts are required, but many cuts are be made in the Wrong places. Maybe there should be one school system, as the Separate School System is publically funded anyway. Kids that are R C faith could take a credit or credits in their faith. Two parallel systems are costly. Local school boards need to be trimmed as contract bargaining is largely a provincial matter now. A few smaller local issues do not need the top heavy board offices with the high salaries. There are more superintendent in both SSM School Boards than in the 60's & 70's, yet declining enrollments, less teachers and EA's, Support Staff and schools..... go figure that out! Local boards need trimming and money be spent where needed in classrooms. You really need to be aware of what be an educator is and does before making uninformed comments that one perceives as being factual and truthful. Walk a mile in their shoes, spend a few days in classroom to see what it takes. Most back down & take cheap shots.

Money should be refunded to contributors of land tax
