Seriously? I've read comments that said the alert came at an inconvenient time. Memo to child abductors: please be more considerate of others,Conduct your abductions outside of regular working hours. As the poll suggests: if it was your kid, you'd want the alert broadcast coast to coast ASAP.
"Oh I'm so inconvenienced by someone ELSE's missing kid." ... Heaven forbid it be a relation to you one of these days. And as for the geographical location being irrelevant, are we back in the horse and buggy days where someone can't get somewhere else fast? These alerts are great for their purpose but I do wish there was some area on my phone that they could be saved to, for quick reference if I need additional information. (Yes, I could look it up online but if I'm not on WIFI or don't have data, where would I find it offline)
I think its a fantastic system.. it did make me jump due to the loud sound it made.. but it did its job and got my attention. Maybe have more frequent alerts in the immediate area of abduction and fewer the further away from it.. and I do agree about a way to save it.. like if it stayed in my phone like a text.. so i can refer back to it if need be or a direct link to take me to more info... etc..
I think it is a great idea, as a mother I know I would want the world looking for my child so I think these alerts should have been in place a long time ago. And abductors travel fast so I think having them all across Ontario is a great idea.
There should be an opt out option especially on the cell phones. This way it solves all the problems, people who don't want the messages can opt out and those who do want them get them. Then there is no ability for anyone to complain, best of both worlds...
Received 2 messages. One in English and one in French 27 mins apart. Either send one message with both English and French or send the two of them back to back. With that being said I feel the system and it's purpose is great. Sure I was annoyed when they came through as I was trying to sleep after my 12 hr shift but as the poll states if it was my child missing I'd want the message sent regardless of any inconvenience it my pose to others.
People in there cars driving were startled, you have to pick up your device to stop it, or it replays over and over, thunderbay is 8 hours away if a child goes missing at noon and the alerts pops up at 12:30 i don't care how fast an abductor is travelling they won't be here until the evening, since these things roll off the cell towers i can't imagine why it can't be a rolling alert.
Texting and driving is the leading cause of accidents........if an alert for a missing child in thunderbay kills a driver in toronto or sault ste marie or sudbury or ottawa what is that? a fair trade?
Do you listen to the radio? If its one of the Michigan stations you will get alerts over the radio for dangerous weather conditions, the sound is just as loud and could startle you.

The system was just implemented, it will take some time to tweak it , but I did not mind the alert.
