@Chris L - that is the exact point of an alcohol tax. The tax is paid most heavily by those who consume the most, and thus expect to need the most healthcare (and other costs mentioned in the letter). If the alcohol tax is lower, you are "subsidizing" someone else's bad choices, since the cost of healthcare then has to come from "regular" taxation, instead of tax on the alcohol that's causing the increased healthcare costs.

The lack of logic in these comments in mind-numbing.
